Oklahoma Young Republican Federation Stands Firm Against Proposed OKGOP Rule Change targeting voters between the ages of 18 and 40.
Oklahoma City, Ok - January 28, 2025-- The Oklahoma Young Republican Federation, a prominent organization dedicated to recruiting, training, and electing the next generation of Republican leaders in Oklahoma, has expressed strong opposition to a proposed rule change that could significantly impact the votes of young people within the Oklahoma GOP.

Recently, it came to the attention of the Oklahoma Young Republican Federation that a rule change was proposed at precinct conventions in Oklahoma County. This change aims to remove the voting rights of the Oklahoma Young Republicans and the Oklahoma College Republicans from the Oklahoma GOP convention. Alarmingly, this proposal was included in the precinct packets submitted to the county without prior notification or discussion with the affected parties.
The Oklahoma Young Republican Federation is concerned that this proposal was not subjected to a vote by the precincts. Instead, it appears to have been inserted into the packets by individuals seeking to undermine the party's integrity and specifically target the votes of young people, which is a vital component of the party's future.
Brendon Worth, Chairman of the Oklahoma Young Republican Federation, stated,
"We are deeply saddened by the actions of those who have attempted to marginalize the voices of young Republicans in Oklahoma. This move not only threatens the democratic process within our party but also disregards the contributions and potential of our younger voter base. In the 2024 election alone, young Republicans deployed across the nation to do their part in securing the majority in both chambers and returning Donald Trump to the White House. Actions like the one taken in cowardice at the precinct meetings in Oklahoma County discourage young Republicans from getting involved and have a direct effect on the amount of voter contacts we are able to make. Instead of party unity and thus victory for Republicans up and down the ticket the individuals that proposed this change seem more interested in having the appearance of power and helping Democrats win elections. We will stand firmly against any efforts to diminish young leaders' role in shaping our party's future."
The Oklahoma Young Republican Federation emphasizes the importance of inclusivity and representation within the political process. They believe that engaging young voters is crucial for the continued growth and success of the Republican Party in Oklahoma.
As the organization continues to advocate for the rights and representation of young Republicans, they call upon party members and leaders, in addition to elected officials, to reject any attempts to disenfranchise young people from voting in party elections. The Oklahoma Young Republican Federation remains committed to fostering a political environment where every voice is heard and valued.
