Writing Games features LociTerm, a browser-based client keeping text games playable for everyone
Developer RahjIII shares how The Last Outpost inspired him to build an accessible web client for the next generation of MUDs
Online - June 9, 2025-- Writing Games, a site dedicated to the culture and craft of text-based roleplaying games, has published an interview with Jeff “RahjIII” Jahr, creator of LociTerm and administrator of the long-running text game The Last Outpost.

LociTerm is a web-based client that allows anyone to connect to multi-user dungeons without needing to install a program.
LociTerm is an open-source, browser-based client designed to make multi-user dungeons accessible from any modern device. Built with a mobile-first mindset, it supports screen readers, OpenDyslexic fonts, high-contrast modes, and even captioning for in-game sound effects - features rarely seen in traditional MUD clients.
“For MUDs to survive, they need to be as playable as possible on touchscreen devices,” Jeff said. “LociTerm was built to make that possible.”
The interview also explores The Last Outpost’s 30-year history, Jeff’s path from ASCII artist to lead developer, and the lessons learned from maintaining a game across decades of changing technology.
“What impressed me most is Jeff’s commitment to keeping text worlds playable for everyone,” said Andruid, creator of Writing Games. “He’s preserving history while pushing accessibility forward.”
